5 Things I Learned this Weekend - Florida FivePublished by
We are now entering the 4th week of the Florida High School Cross Country Season. With temperatures starting to fall, 5k times are following suite. Below, DistancePreps.com gives you 5 things we learned this weekend. 2 – We have a new player in the 4A boys-team battle in Dr. Phillips. A team that didn’t see the state meet last year is making leaps and bounds since bringing Jorge Fleitas on as coach. Dr. Phillips ran well at the UF Mountain Dew Invitational placing 9th in a field of 61 teams, with a 5k average of 17:08. If Dr. Phillips hopes to be a top 5 threat at state they will need to find a 5th man as they beat Lyman and Winter Park 1-4. 3 – Speaking of 4A guys, the race for the individual honors is going to be a great one. Last year’s runner up, Brandon Marquez, was the heir apparent to take the top podium position that was left vacant after the graduation of Andres Arroyo. Unfortunately for Marquez, the road to the top will be a tough one as Nick Diaz, Manuel Velasquez, and Kurt Convey all hope to upset the sophomore from Timber Creek. 4 – The Pace High School girl’s team is for real! At the Gulf Coast Stampede in Pensacola, Florida, the girls managed to be the first Florida team, placing second overall with 94 pts. The girls averaged 20:50 on the Escambia Equestrian Course and are currently the 3rd ranked girls team in 3A. 5- One of the best ways to stay up-to-date with DistancePreps.com’s coverage is to follow us on all our social media channels.
